I mentioned before that I think that not being able to carry arbitrary
bits of lilypond around within the .denemo format is a big drawback -
you end up modifying the .ly file, then finding something that would be
easier to fix using denemo. I proposed enabling the knowledgeable user
to attach strings for output in the lilypond export routines and started
to look at this when I came across the lilydirectives.c file. The
lily_directive_new() function got commented out some years ago - the
ChangeLog entry just said "minor fixes"! Was this ever finished, did it
runn into trouble? I would like to let the user attach lilypond strings
at any point in the output (e.g. the \transpose directive before the
music in the staff, or things in the score block), but it looks like the
lilydirectives.c file is a start.
