Yes that would be fine.

I'm not sure that would be sufficient for the gtk initialization to find
it, looking with strace (I think it was) at the initialization of denemo
I found that it was looking at ~/.fonts so I put it there and it worked.
But how systemwide installation should be done I'm not sure. I think gtk
may be doing all the common font finding things (fontconfig and others?)
but I am not sure.
