DDD 3.3.10 (alphaev6-unknown-linux-gnu) gets `Segmentation fault' signal

ddd fails to start. Command given is
   ddd

ddd flash comes up, main ddd window comes up with hour-glass cursor, 
then vanishes with 
   Internal error (Segmentation fault).
and subsequent messages.

Linux 2.6.12.
