ddd and Cobol

How much work would be involved in modifying ddd to work with OpenCobol?

OpenCobol converts Cobol into C so that gcc can be used to set
break points in the C code, but users would like to manipulate
with Cobol source windows using Cobol variable names and types.
It should be possible to step one Cobol line at a time.

Is ddd structured so that an extension like this would be
easy?  Would it be simple enough for a summer student project?
