GNU Coreutils provides *core* (or basic) tools which are used in many
operating systems (not only those supporting LD_PRELOAD). I fail to
see how this fake-tty / fool-tty utility belongs to this set of basic
tools. Also there's the 'script' utility, which is not POSIX, but it's
common enough and provides the functionality you want.
Perhaps this request belongs better in a project like moreutils?
