redirect command with tar

The command 'tar' is used to update a tar file stored on a portable
hard disk drive, of files stored on a local hard disk:

tar -uvf /path/to/portable/harddisk/ *

In the command terminal, the list of files added to the tar file is
shown. In future, can the redirect output command be applied, e.g.:

tar -uvf /path/to/portable/harddisk/ * >
~/tmp/list/of/files/added/to/harddisk.txt
