On today's Austin Group meeting, there was a discussion about http://austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=190, which is proposing that in a future revision of POSIX, all man pages for standard utilities shall have a section for EXIT STATUS. Looks like we need to start thinking about how to get help2man to add that in for us, possibly by modifying all of our man/*.x files.
