Hi,
The problem below is fixed with 2.0.5 of the utf8 egg.
The source of the problem was the rewriting of some string operations
by the compiler which were rebound in the same compilation-unit.
This can be a feature or a gotcha so programmers should be aware. (The
most reliable source of which routines are "usual-integrations" is the
Chicken source file "c-platform.scm".)
