The piece symbols can be changed by specifying a true-type Chess font.
The file ChessMark.ini in the standard install shows an examply how to do this,
using the option /renderPiecesWithFont="...".
The README html file accessible from the Start menu contains a link to a page
that explains how to do this in more details.
