The script just holds calls to wget. So changing .sh to .bat was ok.

A .bat file would not deliver any different format.
There should be some program to read these .nc files (I am guessing netCDF:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NetCDF).
Ask at GlobalAlbedo.org, what is all about.
