md5sum standard input requires two EOF

md5sum requires me to type my EOF character twice before it generates
output. This is probably a bug - programs should not be reading input
after the first EOF.
$ uname -a
Linux elm 2.4.18-8.1mdk #5 Sat Jul 20 15:56:43 EDT 2002 i686 unknown
$ md5sum --version
md5sum (textutils) 2.0.17
