sort dumps core

On RedHat 7.2, GNU sort dumps core if you specify -m and any file
argument but the last is empty.

Example:

        $ sort -m /dev/null /etc/passwd
        Segmentation fault
        $

I haven't looked at the source code.  I can work around this problem
but it's a nuisance.
