Hey, just a suggestion, but I've recently been wishing that
`cut' could use a specified output delimiter with the -c or
-b options, e.g.;

cut --output-delimiter="\t" -c n1-n2,n3-n4,n5-n6

This would enable an extremely compact transformation
from fixed-format records to (e.g.) tab-delimited fields.
