Feel free not to consider it if you find implementing your desired
functionality enough, but there has also been discussion of outputting
an "anchor" at def items to provide a link that could be copied:

It would be good if this could be implemented with CSS too.

The CSS implementation of this on Sphinx-generated pages is
in a large, incomprehensible CSS file so I can't tell how it works.
It is something to do with the CSS hover property.

Although when you look at the source code of

the permalink label is ΒΆ (pilcrow sign), it is displayed as some
chain symbol which you can't select with the mouse.

I read an explanation online of how it worked a few days ago; unfortunately
I cannot find it again now.
