Follow-up Comment #2, bug #42896 (project texinfo):

presumably the reference to line 6 is related to that being where the
@documentencoding was specified. i didn't look beyond that, though.

what i wonder is, why is Perl talking about "map to Unicode" anyway?  If the
error is that 0xE9 is not part of US-ASCII, well, ok, but where did we tell
Perl that "Unicode" was involved?
