I have tried the fresh texinfo.tex, and the first good news is that I
can compile my document properly (the @anchor in @example works
again). The other good thing is that deffnx parses properly. But I
still have tt fonts for book titles. Actually, this is not a big
issue, I can live with that. What I do not understand is why we lost
the bold. Bold face was the main advantage of @def*. Now it looks
like a plain @table (with better indentation).
What did we lose bold face?
