    As Autoconf will start deprecating the file name 'configure.in' soon,

What harm does it do?  I know a lot of packages (especially nongnu ones)
still use that name, so it'll be creating a lot of trouble to
"deprecate" it.

(Of course, changing make-stds is fine in any case and should have been
done ages ago in some form.)
