I've been referring maintainers to that page so they can get an
account on fencepost and several have come back to me asking for a
simpler explanation of what they need to do (which is basically "email
your savannah id to address@hidden")

I think it could be optimised for the common case of maintainers who
already have an account on savannah and want to get access to
fencepost. Most people working on a project will already have an
account on savannah and a working ssh key there, since they need that
to contribute code.

Bascially something like the paragraph I wrote, displayed at the top
of the page would do. In particular, the email address
address@hidden should be explicitly mentioned (it is only in the
mailto link target, so people have a hard time finding it).

For the rest of the page, I think it could be reduced. Savannah gives
instructions in the account page on how to generate the ssh key so it
doesn't need to be on a separate page any more. Also the "New User
via SSL" link is now simply "New User".

The parts about "currently supported access methods", "CVS" and "If
you're using OpenSSH" seem superfluous these days since ssh is the
only option.
