I can only assume that it means exactly what it says.  You say you are
running on XP and to the best of my poor and limited knowledge of XP
there is no such a thing as a hostname there.  When I say limited I
mean very because I have never ever run XP before.  I think I have
been in the same room as an XP machine once or possibly twice.  But
that is not the same thing.  :-)

That would be a good question for the folks who use and develop
Cygwin.
