I guess so.  In principle I can imagine wanting to represent dates
earlier than 1/1/70 but it's certainly something that can await actual
user need.

    - string, line, regexp => MIN_VALUE = "" ??

I think using those with range should be an error.  To get a "range" of
arbitrary strings, an enum could/should be used.

    What do you think?
