Hi John.

    Here's a patch which adds a new tutorial style chapter to the user manual.
    It is not complete.  You may feel it's not appropriate to commit it just
    yet.  My purpose for posting it is to get some feedback.  Is it the kind 
    of style and format you're expecting?  Does address the shrortcomings which 
you
    mentioned earlier?
    
As we already discussed in the IRC channel, I find this material very
good.  That is exactly what we need in order to make the user manual
more useful.
