    I saw the same issue when packaging recutils on Fedora 15 (x86_64).
    After quick look at the code, the following part looks questionable:
    
    rec-utils.c:290

I applied your patch and the tests now pass in x86_64 even when using
LDFLAGS=-Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions.  Great, many thanks! :)

Can someone confirm whether the tests pass in MacosX as well?
