[Bug-readline] Error compiling for Leopard (Intel)

From: Richard Giraud
Subject: [Bug-readline] Error compiling for Leopard (Intel)
Date: Mon, 19 Nov 2007 00:31:57 -0700
User-agent: Thunderbird 2.0.0.4 (Macintosh/20070604)

I tried to compile the readline library for Mac OS X 10.5 (Intel) and received the following error:

i686-apple-darwin9-gcc-4.0.1: -compatibility_version only allowed with -dynamiclib
make[1]: *** [libreadline.5.2.dylib] Error 1
make: [shared] Error 2 (ignored)

I've attached a script of the build.

I was able to work around the issue by making the following change after running the ./configure command. I couldn't figure out how to do this via configure parameters and/or environment variables (though I didn't try too hard).

$ diff readline-5.2/shlib/Makefile readline-5.2.mod/shlib/Makefile
86c86
< SHLIB_XLDFLAGS = -arch_only `/usr/bin/arch` -install_name $(libdir)/$@ -current_version $(SHLIB_MAJOR)$(SHLIB_MINOR) -compatibility_version $(SHLIB_MAJOR) -v
---
> SHLIB_XLDFLAGS = -arch_only `/usr/bin/arch` -install_name $(libdir)/$@ -current_version $(SHLIB_MAJOR)$(SHLIB_MINOR) -compatibility_version $(SHLIB_MAJOR) -v -dynamiclib

Please let me know if there is more that I can do to help.
