Can't you instead tell CC or CFLAGS to not worry about the implicit function declaration? I.e., specify an older C standard, or tell it to not warn about the problem. That way, you don't have to patch and don't have to worry about aclocal version. This problem should be fixed in the next RCS release so there's no need to worry about maintaining the CC/CFLAGS forever.
