Trying to guess Andrew's answer... :-)
1.6.9 is a rather old version of parted. Please try again with a newer one, e.
g. 1.6.22
If the error persists with the newer/current version, please attach (at least)
the MBR of
your disk to the bug report by using the command
dd if=/dev/YourHarddiskDevice of=SomeFile bs=512 count=1
(YourHarddiskDevice = hda, hdb, ... or sda, sdb, ...)
Maybe something similar should be added to the "A bug has been detected..."
message of parted.
Apart from this: Is "/dev/sda" the device name of your harddisk?
