Could you e2fsck -f it?  (Anything interesting?)

Then, couldy ou send me a "dumpe2fs | gzip"?

Also, you might want to get a newer version... there have been a few
minor ext2 bugs fixed since 1.4.18 (none of them look relevant, but
who knows?)
