When I did the first Solaris update to ncurses a little while ago
to 6.0-20170408, we were previously at version 5.7 (from November 2008).
In a quick check on one of my Solaris VMSs, I get the same
behavior. I'll look further, to find an explanation.
hmm - I could pinpoint the change to line-drawing, but the problem is
simpler than that: the locale settings tell ncurses it can use UTF-8,
so it does that. If your installer used anything except US-ASCII,
you probably would notice this (unless some _recent_ change has been
made to Solaris console to support UTF-8 - in a quick check of my
Solaris VMs, none do that).

I've just sent email to the installer folks asking about this (not
my area of expertise). I suspect it isn't theirs either, but hopefully
they will know who to ask.

If I find out anything, I'll let you know.

Thanks again for deep diving on this.
