Terminal colors changing

After a recent update to ncurses, I started having strange color shifts in several of my CLI applications, most notably my file manager, vifm.

I searched first on vifm's github to see if it had been reported by others. The developer of vifm did some looking, and seems to have found the problem, a recent change in ncurses.

You can read this issue thread here: https://github.com/vifm/vifm/issues/269 with the proposed fix. This not only affects colors in vifm, in my use it's also affecting mc, cmus and a few others.
