hmm - sorry to be slow.   It sounds as if you want an alternate function
like

       CDKMENU *newerCDKMenu (
                      CDKSCREEN *cdkscreen,
                      const char *menulist[MAX_MENU_ITEMS][MAX_SUB_ITEMS],
                      int menuListLength,
                      int *submenuListLength,
                      int *menuLocation,
                      int menuRowNumber,
                      chtype titleAttribute,
                      chtype subtitleAttribute);

...a patch would help.
