They're all quite similar - my change removed quotes from an existing eval,
and added an "eval" to a similar assignment.  (There may be other similar
cases lurking about).

Oddly, I was not able to break xmas (running from the test-directory in
mingw) on either version, and don't see anything in the debug-trace which
indicates it's looking for an actual directory/filename when $TERM is unset.
