After implementation of datarootdir (patch from 20120811)  some TERMINFO 
paths are not correct:

$ grep share include/*
include/ncurses_cfg.h:#define TERMINFO_DIRS "/share/terminfo"
include/ncurses_cfg.h:#define TERMINFO "/share/terminfo"

May be input has to be changed to use datarootdir instead datadir as 
before or datadir to be dereferenced once during configure ?
As work-around --datadir should be set.
Without work-around terminfo is installed into [PREFIX]/share/terminfo but:
$ xmas
Error opening terminal: xterm.


Another strange issue is that with above paths test like xmas build for 
mingw* host crash . If build is with --datadir ,  sample could be run 
even without installation of terminfo database. I could not figure 
difference as in both cases terminfo path does not exists.
