There're 14 manpages aside from ncurses which mention cchar_t, and 11 
others that mention wchar_t.  Seems to me that (since all of them list 
ncurses in the see-also section) improving the discussion in the main page 
is a better solution.  The types and the #define aren't that close 
together, for instance.
