color of underlining and cursor

Hello,

how can I define the color of underlining and the cursor?

And: how to make it independent of the used terminal?

If I have different looks at different terminals,
how to correct this? Shouldn't the ncurses library
make it possible to have a consistent view on
as many terminals as possible?

I have different views on gnome's terminal,
xtern and the linux-terminal/console.

The color of the underline and the cursor
(as well as blinking active or not) are all different there.

But possibly the problem can be avoided, when explicitly setting
colors? Or can terminal settings override ncurses' definitions?

Or does ncurses only use the terminal-specific definitions
and therefore can be influenced by the settings of those terminals?

TIA,
  Oliver
