If you don't have a c++ compilter, try adding --without-cxx to your ./configure line.
Many thanks, that was exactly what it took. I'm also getting NTP implemented to fix the clock skew problem permanently. With ncurses I can do 'make menuconfig' to understand the kernel I have to deal with.
