I don't get that (installing into a separate location, that is).  But looking
at the log, it appears likely that libtool 1.5.2 is confused in some way by the
previous install.  I seem to recall that was 1.5.0 - the ".la" file would
say so.

actually it's the install not the compile.

libtool has to deal with ldconfig or whatever program/permissions/etc are
needed to replace shared libraries in a system.
