I fixed that almost a year ago. I believe it was this item:

indeed - someone reported it on FreeBSD, I fixed it in my ongoing work,
and FreeBSD hasn't incorporated the fix. I recall some email with the
person who reported the problem, but no one picked up the fix.
Furthermore I've sent email to occasional people who comment on this.
Since no one appears to be responsible for FreeBSD, I guess we'll have
to wait a few years until they upgrade ncurses.
