perhaps the former (except that I'm aware this is time-consuming, since
2.57 has several known defects).

For the latter, it's a waste of my time, since a couple of the maintainers
are more interested in playing politics than solving problems.

(That's a long standing issue which probably won't go away).

perhaps - but the reason for the change was to make it less standard,
right?  (not a good technical solution).
