in the curses.h header, e.g.,
#define NCURSES_VERSION_MAJOR 5
#define NCURSES_VERSION_MINOR 0
#define NCURSES_VERSION_PATCH 19991023
(as I said, this sounds like the bug I made/fixed last fall, and at least
Mandrake put that into their distribution)
