I wouldn't recommend TERM=xterm-color unless the person has no idea what
terminal emulator he is running.  (I keep meaning to put together some
screendumps to illustrate the special cases where it would paint the screen
incorrectly on a terminal that does implement bce...)

caveat: Redhat 7.2 distributes an old version of tack (I happened to notice
last week).
