It works (but you need only the shared library - not the rest of the rpm).
The only rpm's I see for 4.2 are full runtime things (though I recall reading
that there was a 4.2 compatibility rpm distributed with Redhat 7.0).
If there's other files, I'd use unrpm to extract just the part I wanted.
In any case, you'll have to see which "4.2"/"4.0" is needed - Redhat was
rather careless about that.
