no (too often it doesn't show me anything more than the warnings that I do
have in the configure script, and has the drawback that it disables all of
the useful stuff in the header files - requiring lots of platform-specific
ifdefs). It's simpler to compile on another platform (not using gcc),
such as Solaris (Larry simply got there before I did).
