flashing symptoms

Hello,

I am using subwindows and subwindows of subwindows. When I refresh one
bottom level subwindow and then anotherone the screen flashes a lot.
Other than that everything works fine. On Solaris the same thing happens
(except that some of my subwindows look blue instead of black on a white
background, which is odd since my code did not implement color). Now
before I look into the color oddity that is a separate issue altogether
can someone please tell me how I can keep that screen from flashing so
much? It's like when I switch windows the whole screen is refreshed
instead of just those parts that need to be updated.
