Agreed that the error message is misleading.
Is there a good reason for the FASLOAD procedure to try to do anything
fancy with pathname types, beyond trying an object file if the type is
"so"? It strikes me as much less of a UI feature than LOAD and more
of a library facility, so that dwimming is not really appropriate, and
if it didn't do anything fancy then making it report the error more
clearly would be easier.
