Details:

Sorting sufficiently large mailboxes in IMAIL causes thrashing for me,
sometimes fails entirely, and makes subsequent message navigation thrash as
well.  I haven't investigated this thoroughly enough yet to identify the
source of the thrashing, but it's bad enough that it occupied enough
resources to cause a mail system failure on a VPS, the result of which was
the obliteration of someone's mail.
