The messages on submakes aren't perfect.
make[1]: Entering directory `/tmp'
make[1]: Leaving directory `/tmp'
You mean "starting submake 1" and especially "ending submake[1]".
In fact, if one did
bla:
make a& make b&
then they would both be [1], so maybe even mention PID's.
