That explains that. And now I see that Ken mentioned it; I missed it because I don't know IMAP well. Sorry. I still say the time zone confusion is caused by mbox's ambiguity.
Maybe the IMAP server can be configured to assume the mbox From_ time is local. If not, maybe SquirrelMail can sort by date sent instead of date received, to avoid the problem.
The mailutils "mail" program emulates an ancient program from the 1970s; I seem to remember that program showed the mbox time unchanged.
