"--disable-sendmail" option, which means that Mailutils no longer
understands the "sendmail:" URL scheme. And this is the default MTA
scheme used by mail and also the scheme that the failed test attempted
to use.
Ah, that does indeed explain everything I've seen during this. I was *so* baffled why 'mail' was behaving that way, and felt sure that it _should_ 'just work'.
And of course I thought that I had screwed up somehow, which I guess I kind of did by using --disable-sendmail. I am running Debian Squeeze, and using Exim4 -- so I disabled 'sendmail'. Doh! (P.S. I see that Exim4 sets up a symlink to itself to provide a '/usr/sbin/sendmail' command on Squeeze)
I really appreciate your taking the time to explain this: it makes perfect sense now.
I also very much appreciate how well you understand and conform to the standards -- very, very nice. I'm sure it must be a real challenge at times.
Thank you also for all the time you've spent developing this wonderful software!
