I was not member in the group mail. This is now fixed. I can create
and delete other files in that directory now.
In other words, "> /var/spool/mail/foo" succeeds, doesn't it?
I did not know this is a valid command. But yes, it shows the same
result as
touch /var/spool/mail/foo
Of course I do this as user hiran without sudo... ;-)
Still I get the same message:
Error expunging:609: Input/output error
Strange. Just in case, are there enough free space on the device that
hosts /var/mail? It should have at least 8M available.
I'm sure there is plenty of room left.
address@hidden:/var/spool/mail$ df
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda1 4127076 1358060 2559372 35% /
varrun 387748 188 387560 1% /var/run
varlock 387748 0 387748 0% /var/lock
udev 387748 72 387676 1% /dev
devshm 387748 0 387748 0% /dev/shm
address@hidden:/var/spool/mail$
So it is not access rights, it is not disk space. What next?
