Thanks for the link to SpamAssassin.  I don't know Perl, but since you
pointed me to this, I downloaded it, and will look at Received.pm to
find out what my C program needs to do.  I can use lex/yacc or pcre if
I need to.

I'm also experimenting with it in Mathematica, which has string
patterns in version 5.1, courtesy of pcre.

Sergey, I'll certainly keep you posted.  I'm not sure yet how much
time I'll have for this aspect, but I'll give it a whirl for fun.
