We follow the POSIX options of mailx, and there were no "-a" options.
Do you have a formal description of "-a" ?
Is it from the BSD version ?

Agree with you, do not see any reasons not to do "-a" if it can make
migration easier.

If you could post the description of "-a" that would be great.
